Town of Backnang

The former tanning town on the banks of the River Murr is surrounded by beautiful countryside and fruit orchards.

The combination of the proximity to Stuttgart and the local countryside makes Backnang a unique town. With its 36,000 inhabitants, Backnang is a regional centre and the fourth largest town in the Rems-Murr District. It forms a hub for the surrounding parishes and the entire Murr region.

Backnang is located on the edge of the Swabian-Franconian Forest National Park, offering a host of leisure activities and plenty of space for rest and relaxation.

Besides the annual Backnang Street Festival (Strassenfest) at the end of June - the oldest, largest and most attractive street festival in the whole state - Backnang can also hold its own in terms of culture. Thus, one can enjoy a break from everyday life in various museums, in the theatre or variety theatre, in one of the two cinemas or one of the town's many cultural events.
