History

The Hotel Gerberhof was opened in 1993 on the site of the former Robitschek leather tanning works.

During the industrialisation age, Backnang first saw the rise of the textile industry. Thus, many tanners, weavers, spinners and knitting factories set up their businesses. After weaving experienced a period of major growth, the leather industry became the town's leading industry.

Even today, Backnang is still called the "tanning town", although all the major factories have been closed for many years, and some have even been demolished.
